Lifeguard/CPro Review (for LG)

Take this class if you are a certified lifeguard with a certification that is expiring.

Lifeguarding (Blended Learning)

This course is for first-time lifeguards and is comprised of 7 hours of online study and 21 hours of instruction.  Certification is for pools only.

Prerequisites:

  1. 15 years of age on or before the last date of the course
  2. Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest
    •  Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.  Swimming on the back or side is not permitted.  Swim goggles are allowed.
    •  Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
    •  Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
  3. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards (the face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    •  Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface.

Requirements:

Completion and competency of prerequisite skills and score 80% or better on final exam. Participants must behave maturely and responsibly and must attend all classes.

  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • Oxygen Administration (optional)
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training: Preventing Disease Transmission (optional)

Lifeguard Instructor Recertfication (Blended Learning)

This course is for Lifeguard Instructors who need to re-certify their Instructor Credentials every two years.

$275 + $20 WML Registration Fee

The Blended learning content consists of 8 hours of in-class work and 2 hours of at home online study. The class is Mandatory for all LGI’s to renew their LGI cert if it is still valid.

You may also update your base level LG cert in this class but an additional $42 fee must be paid for the certificate. In addition, 1.5 hours of in-class work will be added on to the end of the class.

Water Safety Instructor (Blended Learning)

This course is for individuals who want to become broadly certified swimming and water safety instructors (click on course for prerequisites and certification details).

Prerequisites:

  • 16 years of age on or before the last date of the course
  • Complete online Blended Learning before the first day of class, link will be emailed to you once you have registered for the class
  • Complete precourse session which includes:Swim the following skills at a learn-to-swim Level 4
    1. Front Crawl-25 yards.
    2. Back Crawl-25 yards.
    3. Breaststroke-25 yrds.
    4. Elementary Backstroke-25 yards.
    5. Sidestroke-25 yards.
    6. Butterfly-25 yards.
  • Maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water (sculling is allowed)
  • Tread water 1 minute

Requirements:

In order to become a Water Safety Instructor you must complete the precourse skills, attend all classes, participate and be prepared for the four teach-back assignments and score at least an 80% on the final written exam. All class participants must arrive on time, have homework assignments finished and ready for review each day of class and receive feedback from fellow classmates with maturity and an open-mind.

The Blended Learning content consists of 23hrs of in-class work and 7hrs of at home online study. This class includes an on-line portion that must be completed prior to the first day of class. Participants must complete all 30 hours to be eligible for certification.

Waterfront Lifeguarding Certification –  (Blended Learning)

This is course is for students who require Waterfront Certification. Upon completion they will receive a certificate that qualifies them to guard at pools and waterfronts.

$600 + $49 Mandatory Red Cross Fee for Lifeguarding and Waterfront Skills Certificate + $20 WML Registration Fee (Total = $669).

This is class is for students who require Waterfront Certification. Upon completion they will receive both a Lifeguarding Certificate (including CPR and AED certification) as well as a Waterfront Lifeguarding Certificate.

Prerequisites:

  1. 15 years of age on or before the last date of the course
  2. Swim 550 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed.  Swim goggles may be used.
  3. Swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve three dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4 to 7 feet of water, resurface and continue to swim another 5 yards to complete the sequence.
  4. Tread water for 2 minutes, using only legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
  5. Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds.
    1. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water.  Swim goggles are not allowed.
    2. Surface dive, feet first or headfirst, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
    3. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath.

Requirements:

Completion and competency of skills and score 80% or better on final exam.  Participants must behave maturely and responsibly and must attend all classes.

Course Length:

7 Hours of online study to be completed prior to 26 hours of in-person instruction.

Certification:

Waterfront Lifeguarding/First Aid: 2 years; CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer: 1 year (NY only – 2 years elsewhere).

Waterfront Module

This course is for lifeguards who are pool certified and would like to add waterfront certification.

$200 per person + $27 Mandatory American Red Cross Certification Fee + $20 WML Registration Fee

  • Swim 550 yards, continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
